The Honorable Jim Dunnam

Dear Representative Dunnam,

I know that as a lawyer you are one who advocates for the truth and for justice. As a former colleague, I would not expect you to seek to damage a private citizen’s business nor be injurious to her person, and I am extremely disappointed with your implicit threat to my clients, many of whom provide healthcare to needy and indigent populations. Our home health care providers, hospitals, community health centers, optometrists, nurse anesthetists, and independent pharmacists provide vital, life-saving and life-enriching care to millions of Texans. May I also remind you that I am no longer a public official, but a private citizen, and the statements you made are incorrect. By bringing my clients into your attack on Speaker Craddick and calling them by name, some would be led to believe that you plan to retaliate against them for retaining me. Let me be clear that while my clients have retained me, Speaker Craddick has not. I would ask you to publicly retract your statements in the same way that you publicly made them.

I understand that you as Chairman of the Democrat Caucus may be trying to drive a wedge between Speaker Craddick and some of the members. That is your business. But what you said in your letter that was printed without verification by Quorum Report was neither true nor just. There is simply no need to drag our healthcare providers and their patients into such a partisan attack. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Arlene Wohlgemuth
